 FILM 1995

Braveheart directed by  and Starring: Mel Gibson

Mel was attracted to shoot a large part of Braveheart
in Ireland when the Irish government promised  he would get
the use of the reserve army  (FCA) for the extensive battle scenes, for which he needed fit and well trained fighters.
So many horses were needed for the battle scenes, that all horse owners in the Wicklow / Kildare area were invited to take part with their horses as extras.
One of the main locations used in Ireland was Kippure Holiday Village in the middle of the Wicklow Mountains, on the Sally Gap road from Roundwood to Blessington.
For the scene in which the French princess meets with William Wallace, a small cottage was created here. The remnants are still standing.

TV 1995

In 1995, we first met the inhabitants of the
imaginary  parish of Craggy Island,
and its collection of dysfunctional priests.
Scheming Father Ted (Dermot Morgan),
simple Father Dougal (Ardal O'Hanlon)
and Drunken Father Jack (Frank Kelly)
were looked after by faintly psychotic  housekeeper
Mrs Doyle (Pauline McLynn) in the simple yet
often surreal family comedy.
Music was by the Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon.

To Quote Father Dougal: Well, Ted, as I said last time,
 it won't happen again.

FASHION 1995

In the nineties, the T-shirt grew to three times its size
to fit in with the grunge look
.
'Witty' political messages and parodies of well-known
slogans were printed on t-shirts in bright colours
Rice Krispies became Nice Tripsies.

Back in 1995, not only boots but camouflage pants
and jeans with side-pockets hit the High Street.
By the end of the year the whole place looked like a military training camp.

SWEETS 1995

'Two Dogs' and 'Hooch' hit the shelves in 1995.
Sweet, syrupy, and tasting nothing like alcohol,
Soon there was a myriad of new drinks, including
Alcoholic Grapefruit and even Alcoholic Milk.
An order for Strawberry Hooch back then was  -
"Give us a bottle of Calpol for the young fella"

More drink stuff from the 90's with Canada's
The Kids in the Hall.Their  TV show ran from
1988  to 1995   in Canada and the  States.
Here's their famous girl drink drunk sketch

 Sony PlayStation

Sony had nothing to do with consoles until they launched the PlayStation
which trounced Nintendo's N64 and eventually killed Sega's console production line.
What made the PlayStation so great was the amount and variety of games largely due
to the fact it was CD based, as opposed to cartridges, which was cheaper to manufacture.
The most memorable titles were Tomb Raider, Crash bandicoot and the Final Fantasy series.

The Nokia 2110, launched in 1995,
was capable of little more than calls
and text messages.
It came in any colour you could want,

so long as that was black. The battery on it's own
was bigger and heavier than than today's smart
phones But at the time a GSM digital p hone was
cutting edge technology only problem was there
were very few cells, so a lot of the time you might
as well have carried around a sod of turf .
This started the trend of walking around pretending
to be talking on your cool mobile
while actually talking to yourself...
