Moone Boy Special

This is our special blog dedicated to Moone Boy,Chris O Dowd's comedy drama set in and filmed on location in Boyle
Co Roscommon.   We start off with our video of the world premier of Moone Boy which was screened here in Boyle on the eleventh of August.

We were blessed once again with good weather as SKY HD laid on a terrific evenings entertainment in the company of Chris and all the show's cast.

SKY TV Head of  comedy, Lucy Lumsden with the cast of Moone Boy

Moone Boy is a semi-autobiographical six-parter, adapted from Chris’s 2010 comedy short for Sky’s Little Crackers, based on his experiences growing up in Boyle.
Filmed in Dublin, Co Wicklow, Co Roscommon and Chris’s own hometown of Boyle, Moone Boy follows the adventures of the youngest member of the Moone family.

The Moone Family

A small boy with a big imagination, 11-year-old Martin (David Rawle) is doing his best to survive life with his chaotic family – mum Debra (Deirdre O’Kane), dad Liam (Oscar nominee Peter McDonald) and his loudmouth older sisters Trisha (Aoife Duffin), Fidelma (Clare Monnelly) and Sinead (Sarah White). Luckily for him, he’s got a great friend to rely on for company, Sean Murphy (Chris O’Dowd).

However, Sean isn’t your normal childhood friend, which might have something to do with the fact that he's completely imaginary.
Together, Martin and Sean negotiate the various obstacles of the day-to-day life of an 11-year-old, whether they be his sisters’ unending pranks, school bullies or the pressures of being an altar boy.
Martin isn’t alone in having a pal that only he can see – his school friend Padriac (Ian O’Reilly) has his own made-up mate, ‘legendary wrestler’ Crunchy Danger Haystacks (Johnny Vegas).
Moone Boy also features an unforgettable appearance by British comedy legend Steve Coogan and a variety of animations from the Oscar-nominated studio Cartoon Saloon (The Secret of Kells) as Martin’s regular fantastical daydreams are brought to life through these magical doodles.

1998

THE ROYLE FAMILY

The Royle Family a heartwarming yet genuinely funny
sitcom set in the lounge of a council house in Manchester
was to become a national treasure.
The show consisted mainly of the family watching TV,
smoking cigarettes, and making cups of tea,
while Dad broke wind and railed against society.
In the same way Del Boy and Rodney had been Cockney
heroes of the Eighties, Dave, Denise and the rest were to become Northern champions of the new Millennium.

WET WET WET TOPPED THE CHART IN AUGUST 1994
WITH LOVE IS ALL AROUND

In 1994, Wet Wet Wet had their biggest hit, a cover version of the Troggs single "Love Is All Around", which was a huge international success and spent fifteen weeks atop the British charts.
This long run at number one was helped by the runaway success of the movie Four Weddings and a funeral.

The film follows the fortunes of Charles and his friends as they wonder if they will ever find true love and marry. Charles thinks he's found "Miss Right" in Carrie, an American. This British subtle comedy revolves around Charlie, his friends and the four weddings and one funeral which they attend.

EUROVISION 1994

Charlie McGettigan and Paul Harrington are runaway winners, giving Ireland its third victory in a row.

TV 1994

Echo Island began on RTE Network 2 in 1994 , one of it's presenters was Dara O'Briain and here he is reliving those days
on the Jonathan Ross show.

BRIT POP 1994

Noel Gallagher began working on "Live Forever" in 1991, while working for a building company in his hometown of Manchester. After his foot was crushed by a pipe in an accident, he was given a less-strenuous job working in the storeroom, allowing him more time to write songs. One night, he was listening to The Rolling Stones' album Exile on Main St.; while playing one of his own chord progressions, Gallagher noted that it sounded good against one of the vocal melodies from the album: "It was the bit from "Shine a Light" that goes [sings], "May the good Lord shine a light on you"", Gallagher recalled. Gallagher incorporated the melody, changing the line to "Maybe I don't really want to know".

WHAT WE READ 1994

Not as popular as it was in the 80's but still going strong Smash Hits
had the the pictures of the artists ,bands and the all important lyrics of the top songs.

I bought them weekly back in the 80's along with 'Record Mirror'.Had a tower of them in the bedroom. Alas,
all gone now over the years.

Sure do ,used to have the song lyrics printed!
Wasn't Neil Tennant from the Petshopboys
one of the editors

In 1994 everyone was going cross-eyed trying to see pictures hidden in a mosaic of coloured dots.Everyone had a different
recipe to make the images appear - staring at a point on the wall behind the picture, looking at it through glass, in a mirror,

But basically you could either see the picture or you couldn't,
which left half the country convinced they had been the victims
of a massive April Fools' joke.

Magic Eye images may be easier to see if viewed on paper rather than a computer screen. If possible, print this image and follow the instructions below. (You don't need to print in color.)

Hold the center of the printed image right up to your nose.
It should be blurry. Focus as though you are looking through the image into the distance. Very slowly move the image away from your face until the two squares above the image turn into three squares. If you see four squares, move the image farther away
from your face until you see three squares.
If you see one or two squares, start over!
When you clearly see three squares, hold the page still, and the hidden image will magically appear. Once you perceive the hidden image and depth, you can look around the entire 3D image. The longer you look, the clearer the illusion becomes. The farther away you hold the page, the deeper it becomes. Good Luck!
